At the beginning of 2016, ASUS came with the RT-AC88U, a router that made the hearts of gamers beat faster. However, there is also a expansive price tag attached to this, at the time of writing, the router costs an average of 300 dollars. The manufacturer now comes with a slightly lowered model under the name RT-AC86U. This variant is also aimed at gamers, but is somewhat more friendly for your wallet, although it is still not a cheap router.
The ASUS RT-AC86U is an AC2900 class router. It is a dual-band copy at speeds up to 750 Mb / s via the 2.4 GHz band and up to 2166 Mb / s via the 5 GHz band. The device is powered by a 32-bit dual-core processor at a clock speed of 1.8GHz in combination with 256MB of RAM and 512MB of storage memory. The ASUS router must distinguish itself from regular routers through ‘WTFast game accelerator’, which would make connections to game servers optimized. The router also provides Adaptive QoS with which network traffic for games takes precedence over other applications. The device has three external antennas and one internal copy. Also, four Gigabit LAN connections and both a USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 port are missing.
The ASUS RT-AC86U is available from September and carries a 250 dollar price tag.
